FAQs

    • If you are getting sprayed for an event, photoshoot, or night out it is best to book your spray tan 2 days prior. This gives the tan enough time to fully develop and settle onto your skin. It also gives you enough time to have a couple showers to ensure any leftover bronzer is removed from your skin. It is not recommended to book a spray tan day of your event.

    • If you are getting sprayed for a week long vacation it is recommended to book your tan 1-2 days prior so you can have the freshest tan possible when you arrive at your destination! Air travel can have a drying effect on the skin so it is important to give yourself enough time to shower and moisturize before you take off. DO NOT book your tan immediately before getting on a flight.

    • It is highly recommended to avoid booking a tanning session if you currently have a sunburn or peeling skin.

    • Exfoliate your skin 24 hours before your appointment.

    • Ensure any leftover spray tan or sunless tanning products are completely off your skin prior to your session.

    • Shower and shave at least 12 hours before your appointment to give your pores time to close to avoid any discoloration.

    • Complete all other beauty services first i.e. hair, nails, waxing, massages, etc.

    • Do not apply any lotions or oils day of your appointment.

    • Come to your appointment product free, no makeup, lotion, oils, deodorants, perfumes, etc. These act as a barrier to your tan and can cause issues with development.

    • Hydrate your skin the week leading up to your appointment, drink plenty of water/moisturize daily for best results.

    • Immediately following your appointment change into the recommended clothing. This will ensure the bronzer stays in place and you can avoid any unwanted streaks in your tan. Sitting down in clothing that exposes the legs such as shorts and dresses, can cause transfer. Long baggy sweatpants are highly recommended.

    • Wait to shower until the recommended time frame given to you by your technician. For rapid tans the recommended time will be anywhere from 1-5 hours and original tans will be anywhere from 6-8 hours. Use this time to relax and marinate in that fresh tan!

    • Avoid getting wet until your first shower! This includes working out, hand washing, doing dishes, skincare/makeup.

    • Once you hop in the shower it is important to use your hands as a guide to gently remove the bronzer from your skin. Make sure to rinse in warm water and do not use soap or body wash during your first rinse.

    • Pat yourself dry with your towel, don’t rub!

    • Avoid loofas, scrubs, or shaving while you have your fresh tan. These will rub off the spray tan.

    • 12 hours after your session resume your moisturizing routine. Using lotion 1-2x daily ensures a long lasting tan that fades evenly!

    • Most girlypops prefer to tan completely nude to avoid tan lines.

    • Remove all jewelry and any clothing that you don’t want to leave a line. Anything you wear during your session will leave a tan line and it cannot be corrected mid session or after the fact.

    • Your comfort is our top priority! Cover as much or as little as you wish. If you prefer a thin tan line we can provide a disposable thong. If you wish to cover up top it is best to bring a strapless bra or bandeau.

    • Immediately after you get sprayed you should change into long, loose, dark clothing. Slip on shoes are recommended if you will be leaving your house in the bronzer.

    • Spray tans are a safe form of sunless tanning that use DHA as their primary ingredient. DHA is a sugar compound that reacts with the amino acids on the most outer layer of the skin, causing a temporary darkening effect. Because DHA (also known as dihydroxyacetone) only affects the topmost layer of skin, which sheds and exfoliates naturally, a spray tan is temporary and typically lasts for about 7-10 days.

    • Moisturize! Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Say it with me now “I love lotion!” Lotion is your best friend when using sunless tanning products as DHA is known to cause dryness. Staying hydrated and moisturized prevents the crackling and splotchiness you may have worried about.

    • Use a natural body wash or soap. Aveeno body wash is a fan favorite around here!

    • Swimming, frequent perspiration, and hot baths/showers can all cause your tan to fade more quickly. Although you don’t need to completely avoid these activities it is good to know these can accelerate the rate at which your tan fades.

    • Any form of hair removal should be completed prior to your appointment as waxing, sugaring, and shaving can remove your tan.
